To the Editor:
I am puzzled to why a select group of county residents are being singled out for financial responsibility for a county roadway repair. I read the excuse that the embankment repair is not a county project because it is not directly linked to the roadway. This makes no sense. If the embankment repair isn’t needed to support the bridge and it’s a county roadway then let’s ignore the erosion. We residents don’t need an island in Lake Sumter. If on the other hand the repair is needed to maintain our roadway, maybe we residents would prefer a less expensive solution. Who picked the current planned solution? Did we who are being held responsible get a say? How about fixing the problem by reducing the load on the bridge? Let’s restrict the bridge traffic to vehicles under 10,000 pounds. Since there is apparently no commercial responsibility for the roadway, there should no need for commercial vehicle traffic. Also if needed we could reduce the bridge load by restricting  the traffic to one lane. This should be plenty for us few residents who are being held financially responsible.
