A semi was engulfed in flames while traveling Friday afternoon on Interstate 75 in Marion County.

Dimitris Adams, 42, of East Point, Ga., had been driving the semi at 2:50 p.m. Friday near Mile Marker 365 northbound on I-75 when warning signs from the cab began alerting him of a problem, according to a report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

Adams then observed smoke from the under the hood and stopped the vehicle on the east shoulder. As he exited the vehicle to investigate the cause of the smoke the semi truck became engulfed in flames. Both Northbound and southbound traffic where stopped by FHP personnel while Marion County Fire Rescue Team extinguished the blaze. Traffic was shut down for about 45 minutes.

Adams escaped injury.
