Sharon Chartres Jackson, 74, of The Villages, FL, (formerly of Voorheesville, NY) passed away on September 13, 2017 after a brief illness. She was born on June 15, 1943 and raised in Troy, NY.

Sharon was married to Leland “Skip” Jackson and recently celebrated 51 years of marriage. Sharon and Skip resided in Voorheesville, NY until moving to Florida 5 years ago.

After graduating from Catholic Central High School, Sharon was employed by NYS Department of Taxation and Finance and the Voorheesville School District. Sharon was very active in the community; she was a Brownie/Girl Scout leader, a Boy Scout leader, a girls’ softball coach, and an assistant coach for boys’ baseball. Sharon made many quilts to be donated to St. Catherine’s Children’s Home in Albany, NY. She also taught religious instruction at St. Matthew’s Church in Voorheesville, NY. Sharon was always present at her children’s school performances and activities as well as those of friends’ children. Sharon was also host mother of two foreign exchange students from Japan. For fun, Sharon enjoyed summers spent at Friends Lake in Chestertown, NY as well as hiking. After moving to Florida, Sharon played golf, Mahjong and participated in Operation Shoebox.

Sharon is survived by her husband, “Skip”, three children: Diane (James) Zielinski, Joseph (Holly Rummel) Jackson, Daniel (Michelle Breton) Jackson. She is also survived by nine grandchildren: Justin and Ryan Zielinski, Garrett and Drew Jackson, Steven, Brittany, Christopher, Lydia and Joseph Jackson; two great grandchildren: Ethan and Ava Jackson. Also, predeceased by her first great grandson, Logan Jackson. Sharon is also survived by a brother Thomas P. Chartres, a bonus daughter, Jeannine (Art) Brearton and several nieces and nephews.

Sharon would not want anyone to dwell on the negativity of her passing so in honor of her, we will instead remember some of her funniest moments.

A memorial service will be held at Beyers Funeral Home Chapel in Lady Lake, FL on Thursday, September 21, 2 PM, gathering from 1 to 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that any donations be made to the charity of your choice.
