The Marion County Sheriff’s Office has identified the teenager who died Saturday at a limerock quarry in Ocala.

The death of Zachary Isaiah Newton, 18, of Tampa, is being investigated by the Medical Examiner’s Office. The cause of death has not been released.

At about 11 a.m. Saturday, Marion County Fire Rescue received a call about a possible drowning at a limerock quarry located behind the Hard Rock Cycle Park on Gainesville Road.

When MCFR personnel arrived on scene, they found 10 juveniles, all ages 16 and 17, near the quarry indicating that Newton had gone in the water and had not come out. MCFR called in the Marion County Sheriff’s Office for assistance in locating the missing teenager.

At approximately 2:15 p.m., the Marion County Sheriff’s Office dive team located Newton’s body underwater.

He attended C. Leon King High School in Tampa.
