Sinkhole at golf course latest to form since 10 inches of rain from Hurricane Irma

A sinkhole which has formed at Hawkes Bay Executive Golf Course is the latest of many to have been discovered in The Villages since Hurricane Irma.

A week ago, the powerful storm dumped an estimated 10 inches of rainfall on Florida’s Friendliest Hometown.

Throughout the week, sinkholes popped up at homes and on golf courses in The Villages after the drenching rainfall.

A massive sinkhole that was discovered Saturday at American Legion Post #347 in Lady Lake has been drawing plenty of curiosity seekers.

A steady stream of area residents on Sunday were spotted parking in the Legion lot and marching over to the large retention area where the enormous sinkhole has formed. They used their phones to snap photos and selfies with the sinkhole.
