A snowbird from Pennsylvania was arrested Thursday night on a charge of driving under the influence after he climbed behind the wheel of a golf cart at Lake Sumter Landing.
Bruce D. Mackay, 64, of Allentown, Pa., who also owns a home on Dafoe Terrace in the Village of Fernandina, was getting into a golf cart shortly before 8 p.m. on Lakeshore Drive near Cody’s Original Roadhouse when he was spotted by a Sumter County sheriff’s deputy on foot patrol. MacKay was attempting to back out of a parking spot when he was approached by the deputy. When asked by the deputy if he had been drinking, Mackay said he had consumed seven to eight beers, according to the arrest report.
He failed field sobriety exercises and provided breath samples that registered .130 and .131 blood alcohol content.
He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center on $1,000 bond.
