A snowbird from Pennsylvania has been sentenced in connection with a golf cart DUI at Lake Sumter Landing.
Bruce D. Mackay, 64, of Allentown, Pa., who also owns a home on Dafoe Terrace in the Village of Fernandina, was arrested Dec. 8 on a charge of driving under the influence.
He had been getting into a golf cart shortly before 8 p.m. on Lakeshore Drive near Cody’s Original Roadhouse when he was spotted by a Sumter County sheriff’s deputy on foot patrol. MacKay was attempting to back out of a parking spot when he was approached by the deputy. When asked by the deputy if he had been drinking, Mackay said he had consumed seven to eight beers, according to the arrest report. He failed field sobriety exercises and provided breath samples that registered .130 and .131 blood alcohol content.
Mackay entered a plea of no contest to the DUI charge on Feb. 16 in Sumter County Court. He was sentenced to one year of probation, will lose his driver’s license for six months and was ordered to perform 50 hours of community service.
