Son claims 90-year-old mother victim of embezzlement while living at Spruce Creek South

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a claim that a 90-year-old was a victim of embezzlement while she was a resident of Spruce Creek South.

In a letter to law enforcement, the son of the woman says he brought her to live with him in Shelbyville, Indiana a year ago, after she was diagnosed with dementia, according to a report from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. She was placed in an assisted living center there.

He launched an audit of his mother’s finances and discovered that someone had taken advantage of his mother. In the letter, the man claimed that someone had embezzled or borrowed an undisclosed sum of money from her over a period of years.

The case remains under investigation.
