A son who threatened a Villages couple with an “Isis style” attack, had been arrested last year in South Carolina on a drug charge.
Jayson Scott Kearney, 49, has been held without bond since his arrest June 30 at a home at which he had been living on Pendelton Circle in the Village of Largo. He is facing felony charges of aggravated battery and assault.
Kearney’s 70-year-old mother said she had been sitting in a chair watching television when her son approached her from the rear and put his arm around her neck while holding a knife. He drew his hand across her throat, simulating slicing her neck. Her son told her, “This is how I’m going to kill you!”
Kearney graphically described giving his mother and a 75-year-old man in the home “smiley faces,” according to the arrest report. The smiley faces were in reference to slitting their throats from ear to ear, “Isis style,” according to the arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
Kearney said he would kill the man first. He then boasted how easy it would be to do it and then steal their vehicle and travel “back to South Carolina.”
In July 2016, Kearney had been arrested in Charleston County, S.C. on a charge of cocaine possession. He was released on $5,000 bond.
According to his Sumter County Court file, Kearney has been found to be indigent and will rely on the public defender’s office for representation.
