The state has paid $650 to an expert witness in the case of a Villager found earlier this year in the street naked attacking an elderly man.
Kelly Marie Carpenter, 51, was arrested April 30 on Estrada Place in The Villages on charges of battery on a law enforcement officer, battery on a person over the age of 65, simple assault on a person over the age of 65 and indecent exposure. When she was arrested, she was wearing only a pair of black boots. You can read about her original arrest HERE.
Carpenter is free on $10,000 bond.
In May, Judge William H. Hallman III ordered a forensic mental health evaluation be performed by Timothy Cashman of Homosassa. He was to determine if Carpenter could understand the charges against her and advise the court if involuntary hospitalization was needed. Cashman’s sealed report is now on file with the court.
Cashman was paid $650 for his input.
Carpenter was released June 15 from the Sumter County Detention Center after posting bond.
She is due back in court on Oct. 11. However, communication from the court mailed to Estrada Place address, came back undeliverable. She is being represented by the public defender’s office.
