Stop sign needed in Glenbrook

To the Editor:

By and large The Villages communities have safe vehicle roads.  Buena Vista at Talley Ridge, Glenbrook Gate, is not one of them. I heard that a study was completed on installing a traffic light for safety purposes. I understand it was deemed not necessary. I do not have all of the particulars on this. However I want to express my concerns.  Perhaps the cost of traffic signal versus traffic count did not meet the threshold for installing one.  Nonetheless a form of traffic stoppage to preserve safety is paramount. It can be done cheaply with stop signs.
The Villages population is growing more with the addition of new communities bringing in more housing and, of course, more auto traffic. Buena Vista is a main road that has traffic from all directions. Between County Road 466 and El Camino Real there is one traffic signal at Polo Ridge and the traffic circle near the Savannah Center.  This stretch of four lanes is scenic with trees, bushes, light poles and some gradations of the roadway. Coming out of the Glenbrook Gate drivers may turn left or right. The turn left is extremely dangerous. Vehicles going towards County Road 466 come off a rise in the road.  Vehicles coming from County Road 466 are shielded by trees and light posts. Drivers coming from Talley Ridge to Buena Vista must judge when it is safe to cross two lanes, yielding to drivers wanting to turn left onto Talley Ridge and merge into traffic for a left turn.  In turn this affects Oak Forest because Talley Ridge drivers will use it as a means of avoiding danger. Installing stop signs at the intersection of Talley Ridge and Buena Vista may help to alleviate residents’ angst on Oak Forest due to the volume of vehicle traffic that has been noted during 14 years of residency.
