Summerfield man arrested in AK-47 slaying of Oxford man this past summer

William Lolley II

A 49-year-old Summerfield man has been arrested in connection with the AK-47 shooting death of a man this past  July.

William Lolley II, 30, of Oxford, was shot July 31 and later died from his injuries at a local hospital.

Lolley had a lengthy criminal history, including a 2016 arrest in the drugging and sexual assault of a woman that sent her to Leesburg Regional Medical Center. He had also been arrested in 2015 at Lake Sumter Landing.

Convicted felon Jeffery Jack Rewis was arrested Friday in connection with Lolley’s death. He allegedly shot Lolley at his property at 13660 SE 80th Avenue in Summerfield, according to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

During the investigation, multiple witnesses indicated to detectives that Lolley and Rewis got into an argument, which quickly escalated. When Lolley went to leave the location in a van with several others, witnesses say Rewis retrieved an AK-47 type weapon and began shooting at the victim from the back patio on the second floor of the home. The witnesses’ statements were consistent with the evidence found at the scene, specifically the bullet trajectory evidence taken from the van. Detectives also located a modified assault rifle hidden on Rewis’ property, and forensic analysis confirmed it was the murder weapon.

Rewis’ initial statement given to detectives was inconsistent with witness statements, and he continuously altered his story during interviews. Rewis was arrested the day after the shooting, after detectives found drugs and ammunition in his possession as a result of a search warrant. Rewis is a convicted felon and is not allowed to possess weapons or ammunition.

Rewis is  charged with second degree murder, possession of a machine gun and possession of a firearm with an altered serial number. He has also been charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Rewis is being held in the Marion County Jail on no bond.
