A 24-year-old Summerfield man was arrested on a drug charge after being chased down on foot Sunday by Marion County sheriff’s deputies.

Todd Wayne Poe had been driving his girlfriend’s Chevy Equinox at about 11:30 a.m. Sunday on Sunset Harbor Road when he was captured on radar driving 48 miles per hour in a 30 mph zone, according to an arrest report.

When the deputy activated his lights and tried to pull over the vehicle, Poe abruptly parked it and took off running.

The deputy radioed for backup and two other deputies joined in a foot chase in which Poe was apprehended. Once he was taken into custody, Poe admitted he began running because he was driving on a suspended license and had a gram of marijuana in the center console of the vehicle.

Poe’s girlfriend arrived on the scene and said she had not given him permission to drive her vehicle.

He was arrested on charges of driving while license suspended, possession of marijuana and resisting arrest. He was booked at the Marion County Jail.
