Summerfield man beat with baseball bat in home invasion

Marion County sheriff’s deputies are investigating a home invasion in Summerfield in which the occupant was beat with a baseball bat.

The break-in occurred at about 1 a.m. Saturday in the 14600 block of Southeast 87th Terrace Road.

There was a loud banging at the front door and one of the occupants of the home looked through a window to see who it was.

The man, described as wearing dark clothing a mask and gloves, refused to say why he was there. The man broke out a window and entered the home. The homeowner was armed with a baseball bat, but the intruder took it away and began beating the man.

The intruder took pills from the home and left.
