A 62-year-old Summerfield woman is free on $2,000 bond after she was found to have 102 cats in her home.

Marion County Animal Services in addition to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office responded to the home of Diana Lorraine Darnaby at 8620 SE 156th St. after a neighbor complained about the smell.

Sixty cats, said to be in poor health, had to be euthanized.

Darnaby is facing a felony charge of cruelty to animals.

Darnaby is said to have constructed a separate building on her property  to help house the cats. However, when investigators entered her home earlier this month, they were reportedly overwhelmed with the smell of animal waste. A multitude of insects were also present.

The Florida Department of Health was contacted in regard to the case.
