A Webster woman has been arrested a second time for stealing from the same elderly victim, a Sumter County resident and member of the woman’s church.
Detectives from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Financial Crimes Unit arrested 46-year-old Deborah Ann Thompson on multiple felony counts involving the theft of jewelry from the 75-year-old victim. In October, Sumter County Sheriff’s detectives arrested Thompson for the theft and forgery of personal checks from the same victim.
In December, the victim found a distinctive heirloom bracelet valued at $1,000.00 missing from her residence and notified the sheriff’s office. Detectives discovered Thompson had sold a bracelet matching the description at a local pawn shop. The victim told detectives on the date Thompson sold the bracelet; she had earlier attended a Bible study in the victim’s home. The victim, who had befriended Thompson as a member of her church, allowed her in her residence on multiple occasions.
The sheriff’s office investigation revealed that Thompson has an extensive history of pawn transactions over the past year, including numerous items of jewelry, tools, and firearms. Thompson, who had been released on bond after her October arrest, was charged with one count of grand theft from person 65 or older, and two counts each of dealing in stolen property, and false information to a pawnbroker. Her bond was set at $16,000.
