Sumter deputies investigating attempted homicide in Webster

A suspect in the shooting of a man at about 3 p.m. Wednesday in Webster is being sought by the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to a call after 34-year-old Tony Warthen drove himself to the Marathon gas station on Market Boulevard in Webster and sought law enforcement assistance. Warthen had been shot in the face and was airlifted by Bay Flight to Orlando Regional Medical Center.

The suspect is described as a black male in his mid to late 20’s, between 5 feet, seven inches and 5 feet, nine inches weighing approximately 175-185 pounds. He was last seen fleeing south on County Road 727 driving a Gold Toyota Camry.
