A Community Development District 4 supervisor on Friday accused District Manager Janet Tutt of having a bias against center line striping on the multi-modal paths in The Villages.
Supervisor Paul Kelly made the accusation as CDD 4 pushed forward with its plan to hire an independent traffic engineer. One of the questions to be put to the potential engineer would be whether the presence of center line striping creates a liability for residents of CDD 4.
A center line stripe is in place on the multi-modal path in CDD 4 after supervisors famously went “rogue.” They voted to put down the center line stripe in defiance of a recommendation from Kimley-Horn & Associates Inc. Traffic Engineer Richard Busche.
Tutt, in response to Kelly’s accusation, denied having a bias against center line striping.
Resident Pat Johnson said she does not see why the debate is continuing.
“I don’t see that striping causes any danger at all,” she said. “I don’t know why this debate continues to go around and around.”
Another CDD 4 resident, Stephen Schlapak, said the supervisors weren’t going to have any luck finding an engineer to validate their action.
“You went against your attorney. You went against your engineer,” he said. “It seems like you are looking for someone to pat you on the head and tell you that you did a good job.”
