Whether Villagers attend a patriotic ceremony or simply thank veterans for their service, John Bartram Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, reminds citizens of Armed Forces Day, Saturday, May 21. This single-day holiday, established by President Truman, combined separate celebrations by the Army, Navy, Marines and Air Force. The 1950 theme, “Teamed for Defense,” reflected this unification. Subsequent themes have been “Liberty” and “Arsenal of Freedom” with 2016’s focus being “Guardians of Freedom.”
To commemorate Armed Forces Day, DAR members wish to express their sincere appreciation to all veterans and to those currently in uniform. Daughters also thank all community volunteers giving their time with us in Honor Flight, Operation Shoe Box, Disabled Veterans and similar organizations supporting America’s military men and women.
We salute you.
Villager Carole Ann Peskin is the Organizing Regent of the John Bartram Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution.
