Suspected purse thief returns to scene of crime at Winn-Dixie at La Plaza Grande

Police arrested a suspected purse thief when she returned to the scene of the crime at Winn-Dixie at La Plaza Grande in The Villages.

Edwina Renee McCoy, 31, of Mount Dora, shortly before 10 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day, was arrested in the store’s parking lot.

She had been identified by a woman who said that McCoy had snatched her purse from the store on Nov. 16. The incident had been captured on the store’s video surveillance system. Within two hours, purchases had been made on the woman’s bank card, including $165 on hotels.com, two $50 transactions at Wal-Mart and a $39.99 transaction on Amazon Market Place, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department.

McCoy was arrested on charges of fraudulent use of a credit card and petit theft.

She was booked at the Lake County Jail and released after posting $7,000 bond.
