A 21-year-old Tampa man was arrested at 8:21 p.m. Thursday by Sumter County sheriff’s deputies after he allegedly stole a car.
The sheriff’s office on Tuesday received a report of a stolen car from a Webster woman. On Thursday, she called the sheriff’s office to report that she was driving behind her stolen car on U.S. 301.
Jahreem Shadrack Smithen told a deputy that the victim had given him permission to drive the vehicle to Tampa and visit his family, according to the arrest report.
He was charged with grand theft of a motor vehicle, a felony. He was transported to the Sumter County Detention Center where bond was set at $2,000.
