World War II and Korean War veteran retired Army Lt. Col. Teddy L. Patton died in The Villages Regional Hospital on July 7, 2014, following a brief illness. He was surrounded by loving family members and close friends. Ted was born in New Boston, Ohio, February 14, 1924, the son of Lee and Estelle Huffman Patton. He is survived by sons David, Rex, and Dennis. He also leaves a brother Doug, a sister Fledra Patton Hamilton, a grandson John David Patton, a granddaughter Julia Patton Shane, and two great-granddaughters, Melissa Mary Shane and Caroline Elizabeth Shane. Ted was an avid golfer who was fortunate to play many great courses over the years. Moving from one great golfing community in Southern Pines, NC to another in The Villages, he described it as “the best move of my life!” Evening gatherings on his lanai led neighbors to dub him the “Mayor of Chesapeake” after their street name. He met many wonderful people during the time he lived in The Villages and The Carriage House. He cherished their friendship. Ted will be inurned with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. American Legion Post 347 will honor him at a Memorial Service for local friends and family on Thursday, July 17, at the Beyers Funeral Home in Lady Lake, FL at 1:00 PM.
