Teen accused of taking shoes for toddler at Belk

A 19-year-old will have to answer in court after he allegedly stole shoes for a toddler he had in tow at Belk in The Villages.

Ryan Michael Van-Ferson of Ocala allegedly entered the store at La Plaza Grande shopping center on Aug. 21. He had a shoeless toddler with him and went to the children’s department and put a pair of new shoes on the child’s feet, according to an incident report from the Lady Lake Police Department. He then selected a dress for the child and proceeded through the checkout counter and did not pay for the child’s shoes, the report indicated.

Police arrived on scene and issue Van-Ferson a notice to appear Sept. 8 in Lake County Court.
