Teen arrested after allegedly attempting to cover up marijuana scent with perfume

Patrick Dalton Strickland

An 18-year-old was arrested after allegedly attempting to cover up the scent of marijuana with perfume.

Patrick D. Strickland, of Wildwood, had been a passenger in a gray car at 8 p.m. Saturday on State Road 44 when its driver was pulled over for driving without headlights, according to an arrest report from the Wildwood Police Department.

During a traffic stop, an officer noticed the strong odor of perfume coming from the interior of Strickland’s vehicle. The officer also detected the smell of marijuana.

An officer opened the rear passenger door where Strickland was seated and spotted a clear glass Mason jar near Strickland’s right foot. The jar contained 20 grams of marijuana.

Strickland was arrested on charge of possession of marijuana and booked at the Sumter County Detention Center. He was released after posting $1,000 bond.
