Terrence Lawrence Rutter, 85, of Summerfield, FL passed away on Monday March 23, 2015. Born and raised in the Bronx, with his four siblings, Terry Rutter was a New Yorker through and through. After graduating from Cardinal Hayes High School in 1948, he enlisted in the Navy. The USS Gyatt became home for those years and he considered the men he served with to be brothers. At the Rutter house they were affectionately referred to as “The Boat Boys”. Terry loved Sinatra, golf, and all things FSU. Over the years he honed his skills as a craftsman, working tirelessly on wood working projects. He was intensely interested in economics, foreign policy, and domestic politics. Terry had a strong sense of self and loved to debate; he was fiercely patriotic and wanted a better future in America for his many grandchildren. He came into the world February 28, 1930 and peacefully left March 23, 2015. He is survived by his wife of thirty years, Gwen; daughter Deborah Aman of Lake Mary, Florida; son Terry (Carole) of Orlando, Florida; son Kevin (Toi) of Cocoa Beach, Florida; twelve grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. New York is still the home of his sister, Ellen Cobis and the majority of his nieces and nephews. Mass will be said for Terry at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, Ocala at 10 a.m., March 28th and he will be inurned at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell with Military Honors at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Terry would be pleased with a donation to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.
