Sumter County has now been included in a FEMA Major Disaster Declaration, triggering the release of federal funds to help people and communities recover from Hurricane Irma.
Residents with losses due to Hurricane Irma in Sumter County may now register for disaster assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, according to state and federal officials. Individuals can register online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov
You may also register by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362). The toll-free telephone numbers will operate from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., seven days a week until further notice.
Applicants will need the following to apply:
Social Security Number;
Daytime telephone number;
Current mailing address and address and zip code of the damaged property; and private insurance information, if available.
When an applicant registers, each receives a unique registration number. The registration number is important and should be written down and kept handy. www.sumtercountyfl.gov
Marion County residents eligible for FEMA assistance
Eligibility has been confirmed for residents of Marion County to receive assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Residents can apply online atwww.DisasterAssistance.com. Be sure to gather the necessary documents and materials required to complete the application. A list is provided on the FEMA assistance website as well.
Per FEMA guidelines, individuals and households seeking assistance must apply within 60 calendar days from Sept. 13, meaning applications must be received before Nov. 12.
