Third move in The Villages

Well, the third move in less than two years has been made.  Everything went off without a hitch.  HA!  There were a few hitches of the kind that drive people to drink – even if it is only lemonade.  (You can get fat, if you drink too much lemonade – it’s mostly sugar you know!)  The biggest issue affected The Blond in the house.  She had carefully placed all her makeup and corresponding materials in a clear plastic case.

She did this with the thought that she would know where it was.  Unfortunately, neither of us know where it is.  We can’t blame the movers as we were in control, but it has disappeared.  I suppose that little green men from Mars could have picked it up for testing to see if it could be used to cure picarue (a contagious disease affecting only Martians), but that seems to be pretty farfetched – even for me.  It is one of life’s great mysteries – or at least ours.

Then there was the fact that I had made arrangements for our phone, TV and Internet provider to put in the service the day after we moved in.  No one showed up so I made the obligatory phone call and was informed that the order had been cancelled.  This too was mysterious as no one knew why the cancellation came about. I talked to several people and there were comments that the reason for the cancellation gave notes that were vague and enigmatic.

The up-shot of the entire situation was that we were cancelled and would have to wait ten days until we could obtain another appointment.  Naturally that went over like a lead balloon.  The Blond is a news junky, and can you imagine her going for ten days without being able to see the news.  I would have had to attend a ten day session of Husbands United (a secret society).  I realize that Husbands United does not have ten day sessions, but I would have started one – even if I were the only one who knew when and where it met.

Considering all this, and with a suggestion from a new neighbor across the street, we determined to start small.  That is, we said “phooey” to the national people we had been mildly (alright not so mildly) cursing, and took the local route.  We then marched over to the local office and discussed the matter with a very nice young lady named Kayla.  She said that she would contact their tech manager and she was certain something could be worked out.

And she did!  She called and indicated that someone would be there the next day.  Sure enough a great tech named Robert showed up about 11 a.m. and went to work.  Then a little after noon another tech showed up and said he had been given a work order on our house. Boy, talk about service!  Since the first tech was well on the way to bringing the news and other things to the Evans household, the second one left.  He undoubtedly went to help out some other poor souls who thought they were going to have to wait ten days – or perhaps even eleven, if they came after us.

Our kitchen trash receptacle also disappeared, but I have assured The Blond in the house that her makeup was not left in that area.  It wasn’t!  I certainly can’t blame two disappearances on little green men.

There is the possibility that there are some other little men of a different color from one of Jupiter’s moons.  Nah!
