A third person has died as the result of an accident one week ago on U.S. 27.

Michael Galco, 70, of the Village of Chatham died Friday at Orlando Regional Medical Center. He had been taken there after suffering critical injuries when he was a passenger in a van driven by David Gossard, 77, of the Village of Glenbrook. Gossard and 72-year-old Charles “Ron” Eversole were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash shortly after 6 p.m. on U.S. 27 in front of the entrance to the Highland Lakes community in Leesburg.

The three were on their way to play pickleball when Gossard turned in front of an oncoming vehicle, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol.

All three men attended New Life Christian Church.

A service for Galco will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church.

Gossard had moved here from Illinois. He leaves behind his wife, Shirley. Galco and his wife Arlene moved from Springfield, Ill. to The Villages at the urging of the Gossards.

Galco was retired from the Illinois State Police Forensic Lab.
