Three children ejected from golf cart after SUV violates right-of-way

Three children were ejected from a golf cart after a collision with an SUV shortly before noon Friday on Southern Trace.

The golf cart had been southbound on Southern Trace at 11:50 a.m. when the southbound SUV attempted a right turn onto Woodridge Drive and violated the right-of-way of the golf cart, according to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. The golf cart could not be stopped in time to avoid a collision with the SUV.

The children, a 7-year-old and two 11-year-olds, were thrown from the golf cart due to the impact. The 36-year-old woman who had been driving the golf cart also suffered injuries. All four were transported by ambulance to The Villages Regional Hospital.

The driver of the SUV was ticketed on a charge of careless driving.
