Three people were arrested after an alleged attack on an 85-year-old man in a puppy snatching at a Wal-Mart parking lot.
The man and an 83-year-old female companion went to the parking lot of the Wal-Mart in Summerfield on Tuesday to meet with a woman in connection with the sale of a German Shepherd puppy, according to arrest reports from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. The deal had been arranged through Facebook messenger.
Justin John Karrels, 39, and Tiffany Alyn Stegall, 27, approached the man and snatched the puppy without paying any money for it, the report indicated. The 85-year-old man was struck in the face and fell to the ground. Karrels and Stegall got into a black Saturn driven by 56-year-old Jeannie Marie Hayden, who then backed over the man’s legs.
A witness at the scene verified the man’s version of events.
Hayden complained that shopping carts had blocked the path of the vehicle.
Hayden was arrested on a charge of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. She was booked at the Marion County Jail on $10,000 bond.
Karrels and Stegall were arrested on a charge of robbery and each booked on $20,000 bond.
