A 24-year-old suspect has been arrested in the fatal shooting of a Lady Lake man gunned down in a Wal-Mart parking lot.
Scott Bernard Thomas was apprehended Thursday afternoon after a foot chase near the Birchwood Apartments in Leesburg. A K-9 with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office was able to chase down Thomas.
He has been charged with third degree felony murder, resisting an officer and violating his probation. He was being held without bond at the Lake County Jail.
Additional arrests are expected in the case.
An autopsy on 44-year-old Mark Allen Estes confirmed that the cause of death was a gunshot wound and the manner of death was a homicide.

The sheriff’s office has also recovered the red Toyota Camry that was seen fleeing from the scene of the shooting Monday evening at the Wal-Mart at Fruitland Park.
The sheriff’s office received a tip Wednesday evening that the car was behind an abandoned house in the area where Whitney Road and Veech Road intersect in Leesburg. Deputies found the car and detectives are now processing it for evidence.Â
