The Project Wide Advisory Committee will discuss the unlawful removal of trees at Lake Miona and striping on multi-modal paths when the group meets at 9 a.m. Monday.
The meeting will be held at the District Office Board Room at 984 Old Mill Run in Lake Sumter Landing.
The removal of the trees has angered Villagers. The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the matter and District Manager Janet Tutt has said the District intends to prosecute if an arrest is made.
But Community Development District 5 Chairman Walter Martin in a meeting last month said he finds it suspicious that “no one saw anything.” It is particularly odd, he said, because the work would have involved chainsaws and likely would have taken more than a single day.
The cost of restoration is estimated to run from $30,000 to $50,000 and will be shared by CDDs 5 through 10 which are part of PWAC.
In addition, PWAC will discuss the merits of striping multi-modal paths in The Villages. CDDs 5 through 10 recently were presented information on accidents on multi-modal paths over the past five years and a traffic engineer’s overview of the purpose of the multi-modal paths.
