More trouble for Villagers’ 35-year-old son

Derek John Hoffman

The 35-year-old son of a Villages couple is back in jail after violating his probation after an alleged attack on his girlfriend.

Derek John Hoffman was booked without bond Friday morning at the Sumter County Detention Center.

This past August, he landed behind bars again after a romantic night with his girlfriend turned ugly.

They had been watching a movie on Aug. 19 at his home at 1703 Carrera Drive when they began to get intimate.

“During the throws of passion the defendant stated he was not in the mood to continue,” according to an arrest affidavit on file in Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

Hoffman then went out to smoke a cigarette.

The woman said she felt unwanted and rejected. He then called her a “whore.”

As the argument heated up, Hoffman put the woman in a headlock and punched her in the eye.

She grabbed Hoffman by the genitals, broke fee and ran out.

Hoffman had been arrested last year on a charge of driving under the influence. During the arrest he hurled racial slurs at deputies with the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

Hoffman was previously convicted in 2006 on a charge of simple battery. He was also convicted in 2008 on a charge of simple battery in Pennsylvania.
