Two people were killed in separate accidents Wednesday morning on Interstate 75 in Marion County.
In the first accident, an 89-year-old man riding in a Jeep with his two sons, died as a result of injuries suffered in a crash at 6:24 a.m., according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol. Lynn O. Carlson of Oldsmar had been a passenger in a 2016 Jeep Renegade driven by his son, Michael N. Carlson, 45, of Oldsmar. Michael Carlson fell asleep while driving, the Jeep left the roadway, struck trees and overturned. Lynn Carlson was airlifted to Ocala Regional Medical Center where he later died of his injuries. Another passenger, 46-year-old Mark Carlson of Oldsmar, was transported by ambulance to ORMC after suffering serious injuries in the crash. Michael Carlson suffered minor injuries and sought treatment at ORMC after making arrangements for a dog that had been riding with them.
The second accident occurred at 7:45 a.m. when a woman lost control of her SUV, it struck a guardrail then left the roadway and overturned.
Twenty-six-year-old Amanda N. Welch of St. Petersburg had been at the wheel of the SUV. She was airlifted to ORMC after suffering serious injuries. A 30-year-old Clearwater man who had been a passenger in the vehicle died of injuries suffered in the crash. He has not been identified pending notification of next of kin. A small dog that had been traveling with them also died in the crash.
