Two teens were critically injured in a collision Monday evening in Citrus County.
Sean Baxter, 19, of Inverness was driving a Ford pickup truck northbound on U.S. 41 approaching East Live Oak Lane, while Daniel Leahan, 57, of Deland was behind the wheel of a Chevy pickup truck that was stopped in traffic in the center turn lane of U.S. 41, according to a Florida Highway Patrol accident report. Baxter attempted to pass northbound traffic by traveling into the center turn lane where Leahan’s vehicle was, but the front of Baxter’s vehicle struck the front of Leahan’s vehicle, the report stated. Baxter’s vehicle then traveled onto the east shoulder of U.S. 41 and overturned multiple times, ejecting both Baxter and 18-year-old passenger Alexis Scinicariello of Inverness. Scinicariello and Baxter were not wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision.
Both Baxter and Scinicariello were transported to Ocala Regional Medical Center, having suffered critical injuries. An infant passenger in Baxter’s vehicle, Luke Baxter, was also transported to Shands Hospital for minor injuries.
Charges are pending.
