An usher was led away in handcuffs Tuesday afternoon at the Barnstorm Theater after allegedly pocketing money from tenants at an apartment complex where he previously worked.

Jeffrey Michael Welling was taken into custody by Wildwood police after he reported for work at the theater in Brownwood.

Welling had previously worked as a manager at Wildwood Commons on Lee Street in Wildwood. But he was terminated from that position on Nov. 16, according to an arrest report from the Wildwood Police Department.

A regional representative of the apartment complex told police that Welling had collected rent and deposits from residents, but pocketed the money. Initially, renters did not think there was a problem as Welling had provided them with receipts. Police interviewed several of the residents who had been bilked.

Welling is facing felony charges of fraud and grand theft and a misdemeanor charge of petit theft. He was booked Tuesday evening at the Sumter County Detention Center and released after posting $19,000 bond.

Welling had also been arrested this past December. You can read about that arrest HERE
