Vehicle struck by train after getting stuck on tracks in Marion County

A 60-year-old man escaped injury early Tuesday morning after his vehicle got stuck on train tracks and was then struck by a locomotive in Marion County.

Cedric Deering of Cochran, Ga. had been driving a 1997 Chevy Sedan at 12:14 a.m. on SE 84th Lane Road when the vehicle got stuck on the train tracks, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol. When he saw a train coming, Deering got out of the vehicle.

The  conductor, 45-year-old Randall Guthrie of Jacksonville, was unable to stop the train and it collided with the vehicle.

Deering was ticketed on a charge of failure to maintain a single lane.

FHP was able to clear the scene without any major issues with the assistance of the Marion County Fire Rescue and CSX.
