Village of Amelia woman publishes cookbook

Marilyn Byer can now add published cookbook author to the list of her many experiences in the food world. Narrowing her recipes down to her favorite 200, she has put them in a cookbook called Gild A Lily. She will be doing a book signing at The Kitchen Collection in Lake Sumter Landing from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14.

Byer’s emphasis is on easy-to-make recipes that are delicious and presented beautifully.

“Presentation is huge,” said Byer.

She credits her mom for teaching her to take pride in preparing and serving beautiful food.

“She was amazing with food and entertaining,” said Byer.

Professionally she started 45 years ago in Connecticut with Marilyn’s Creative Cakes making cakes for weddings and corporate events. Then she expanded her business and ran an event production company for over 20 years, even becoming a justice of the peace so that she could literally do it all.

She and her husband Alan moved to the Village of Amelia in 2007. She soon became involved in the kitchen at Temple Shalom. Her food and the presentation had so many people asking for recipes and guidance she started inviting people to her home monthly to demonstrate how easy it is to serve food that has the ‘wow’ factor.

“Poached salmon, my Hilton Head sauce and the fig and brie cups are three perfect examples of easy to make, but very impressive recipes I have included in the cookbook,” said Byer. She includes lots of chef notes with her recipes. “People just need to think that they can do it,” said Byer, “confidence is key in cooking.”

“I love playing with food,” said Byer “It is a wonderful way to make friends and be creative.”

The cost for the cookbook is $20. For more information about her Gild A Lily cookbook go to www.gildalily.com or call 352-233-8566.
