Streetlight Christian Ministries is seeking donated items to help keep the homeless warm during the upcoming cold months.
Bob and Mickie Ziarko of the Village of Charlotte are members of the non-profit, non-denominational Christian group Streetlight Christian Ministries who are collecting the donated items.
“It’s gonna get cold and these people sleep outside,” said Bob. While many have the opportunity to stay warm inside their homes, Bob said that many homeless people do not have the same luxury.
“The bubble of The Villages keeps us from seeing this,” he later stated. The Ziarko couple is determined to bring donated items to homeless people living in Marion and Sumter County within 24 hours of receiving the items.
Items that can be donated to assist the homeless in surrounding areas include gloves, ski hats, sleeping bags, blankets, jackets, and other winter gear to provide warmth and comfort.
Mickie also suggested that those who moved from the north would definitely have unused winter gear that they could donate to the homeless.
The couple is accepting dropped off donations at their home at 3615 Enterprise Drive in the Village of Charlotte.
Donations can also be dropped off at Birdie Golf Outlet at 8590 County Road 466.
