A Village of Collier at Antrim Dells woman will serve jail time as the result of a golf cart crash earlier this year in the parking lot of Winn-Dixie at Pinellas Plaza.
Kolleen Ann Stasevich, 53, was sentenced Wednesday in Sumter County Court on charges of driving under the influence and driving while license suspended.
She was sentenced to one month in jail and will lose her driver’s license for 10 years. She has also been placed on probation for 42 months.
It was her third DUI conviction within 10 years.
Wildwood police responded to the scene at about 2:45 p.m. March 12 after a 911 caller reported that Stasevich had facial injuries and was bleeding as a result of the crash.
Stasevich told police that her green Yamaha golf cart “just took off,” according to an arrest report.
Witnesses told police that they saw Stasevich back out of a parking place, lose control and collide with a parked vehicle.
The police officer suspected Stasevich had been drinking. She failed field sobriety exercises and provided breath samples that registered .267 and .263 blood alcohol content.
The officer discovered that Stasevich had been convicted of a charge of DUI in 2012 in Michigan and of another DUI in 2014 in Florida. She had also been convicted of attempting to flee/elude law enforcement in the 2014 incident and her Florida driver’s license had subsequently been suspended.
If your driver’s license has been suspended or revoked in Florida, you cannot drive a golf cart.
