A 49-year-old resident of The Villages is facing a charge of grand theft after he allegedly stole silver certificates and then tried to use them to buy wine at Kindred Spirits.
Frank Boyne of the Village of Silver Lake is accused of stealing the certificates while cleaning out a shed for another individual in November, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department. Several days later, Boyne’s girlfriend reportedly went to the liquor store at the La Plaza Grande shopping center and bought bottles of wine with the silver certificates. The victim’s son happened to be working at the liquor store and suspected that the silver certificates had belonged to his father.
The victim contacted Boyne and accused him of stealing the silver certificates, but Boyne asked him to give him some time to “make it right,” according to the arrest report. The silver certificates had a total value of $2,000.
On March 11, the victim concluded that Boyne was not going to follow through on his promise and went to the Lady Lake Police Department. The victim had text messages between himself and Boyne, backing up his side of the story.
Boyne was arrested at his home on Monday.
He was booked at the Lake County Jail and later released after posting $2,000 bond. He is due for arraignment April 13 in Lake County Court.
