A 73-year-old Villager was arrested after a fight with a woman over access to keys to a golf cart and automobile.

A 68-year-old woman told Sumter County sheriff’s deputies that she returned to a home in the Village of Rio Grande on Thursday afternoon and was confronted by Matthew James Murnane. The woman said Murnane refused to allow her to enter the home on Palma Drive by pushing her back with his two open hands, according to the arrest report.  He told the woman, who had returned from a restaurant, to “get out” and “leave.” He also slapped her across the face, the report indicated.

She told deputies Murnane’s actions were prompted by her recent refusal to let him have the keys to the golf cart or automobile due to her fear of him driving while inebriated.

He was arrested on a charge of battery and booked at the Sumter County Detention Center on $1,500 bond.
