A Village of Springdale woman has been placed on probation for six months in connection with the theft of earrings in March from a jewelry store in Brownwood Paddock Square.

Rita Tanner, 65, reportedly entered Kylie’s Closet Jewelry Boutique on Brownwood Boulevard and took the earrings, according to an arrest report from the Wildwood Police Department. The owner of the store had noticed items missing and reviewed security footage. It reportedly showed Tanner taking the earrings. She had used a credit card to pay for other items and the store owner supplied the footage and the name to police.

Tanner was arrested on a charge of shoplifting.

She entered a plea of no contest in the case on May 30 in Sumter County Court.

Tanner had been arrested in 2012 on charges of petit theft and resisting a merchant. She was able to avoid prosecution in that case when she entered into pre-trial diversion program.
