A 68-year-old Village of St. Charles man was arrested after his golf cart rear-ended another golf cart Thursday evening on the multi-modal path.

Emergency personnel responded to the crash at about 7:30 p.m. at the tunnel at South Buena Vista Boulevard and Odell Circle.

Kenneth Richard Sechler was found sitting in the driver’s seat of a yellow Yamaha golf cart with the key in the ignition, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

He was asked by a deputy if he had been drinking.

I drank way too many beers tonight,” he responded.

He failed field sobriety exercises and provided breath samples that registered .141 and .146 blood alcohol content.

He was booked on a charge of driving under the influence at the Sumter County Detention Center. Bond was set at $1,000. He was also ticketed on a charge of following too closely.
