A Village of De La Vista man was arrested after leading a law enforcement officer on a chase at a speed of more than 100 miles per hour.
A Howey in the Hills police officer was investigating a report of a suspicious vehicle at 10:20 p.m. Tuesday when he spotted the vehicle drive through two stop signs and onto private property through a yard, according to an arrest report from the Howey in the Hills Police Department.
The officer activated his emergency lights and pursued the vehicle down State Road 48 at speeds of more than 100 mph in a 40 mph zone. The officer lost sight of the vehicle, but received a report at 11:40 p.m. of a suspicious man knocking on doors, asking for help, and “talking about Jesus,” the arrest report indicated.
At 9:17 a.m. Wednesday, another report was received of a suspicious man knocking on doors and asking for help. A Howey in the Hills officer and a Lake County sheriff’s deputy made contact with Leondra McMahan, 38, of 1701 Carrera Drive in The Villages.
He was arrested on charges of fleeing/eluding law enforcement and reckless driving and booked at the Lake County Jail where bond was set at $4,000.
He is due for arraignment April 20 in Lake County Court.
