Lisa Mellea-Rego

A Villager was arrested after allegedly kicking a man in the groin after drinking at a Christmas party.

Sumter County sheriff’s deputies were called at 10:15 p.m. Tuesday to a home on Durango Drive in the Village of De La Vista. When they arrived, a man who was by the pool smoking a cigarette said he had been attacked by 52-year-old Lisa D. Mellea-Rego, who resides at the home with him.

He said they had been at a Christmas party and had consumed alcohol. When they arrived back at home, an argument broke out. When the man approached Mellea-Rego in an attempt to calm her down, the 4-foot 11-inch New Jersey native kicked him in the groin and pushed him in the face, according to the arrest report.

Mellea-Rego told deputies she had felt “scared” and taken action in self-defense.

She was taken into custody on a charge of battery. She was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center where she was initially being held without bond.
