A 58-year-old Villager was arrested by Sumter County sheriff’s deputies shortly after midnight Tuesday after an altercation with a woman.

When a deputy arrived on the scene of a residence on Alva Terrace in the Village of Pinellas, a woman told the deputy that Ralph M. Wilkins had grabbed her arm and pushed her, according to the arrest report.

Wilkins told the deputy he had grabbed the woman’s arm in an attempt to get her to go inside the residence and go to sleep, the report indicated. “Mr. Wilkins also stated there was a slight shoving match, but he did not elaborate,” the report stated.

Both Wilkins and the woman admitted to consuming alcohol prior to the incident, according to the arrest report.

Wilkins was placed under arrest on a charge of battery and transported to the Sumter County Detention Center. The arrest report indicated he has no prior criminal history.
