Villager arrested on DUI charge following two-vehicle collision

A 68-year-old Villager was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence following an automobile accident Sunday on U.S. 441 on NE 138th Lane.

A Sumter County sheriff’s deputy responded to the crash scene at 1:41 p.m. Sunday. At the scene of the crash, it was determined that Silas Griffey of the Village of De La Vista had run a red light in his 2008 Ford Focus and collided with another vehicle.

Griffey told the deputy he suffers from anxiety disorder and had taken six Lorazepam tablets, according to the arrest report.

He failed field sobriety exercises, the report indicated.

Griffey was booked at the Sumter County jail on a charge of driving under the influence. Bond was set at $1,000.
