A Villager was arrested after a night of drinking at a nightspot at Lake Sumter Landing Market Square.

Robert Lamar Burnham, 64, of the Village of El Cortez, was driving in his golf cart at 9:45 p.m. Saturday when he ran through a flashing stoplight at Canal Street and Old Mill Run, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

The deputy making the traffic stop asked Burnham if he had been drinking and Burnham admitted to have consumed eight beers at City Fire.

He failed field sobriety exercises and later provided breath samples registering .095 and .087 blood alcohol content. He was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence and booked at the Sumter County Detention Center on $1,000.
