A Villager is facing a charge of driving under the influence after crashing his golf cart in a Winn-Dixie parking lot.

John Timothy Fuller, 57, of 1339 E. Schwartz Blvd. on the Historic Side of The Villages, shortly before 9 p.m. Friday flipped his golf cart over after striking the curb at the supermarket on Bichara Boulevard, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department.

Bystanders came to Fuller’s aid and called 911. But Fuller allegedly threatened the Good Samaritans after they refused to help raise his golf cart and because they were “calling the cops,” the arrest report indicated.

Police and EMS arrived on the scene and it was apparent that Fuller had been drinking, according to the report. Fuller indicated he had come from Luigiano’s restaurant in Spanish Springs where he had “a couple of beers and a shot of Jameson,” the report said.

He failed field sobriety exercises.

He later told a police officer that in addition to consuming alcohol, he took “several hits” of marijuana.

He was booked at the Lake County Jail and later released after posting $1,000 bond.
